Destination (not) Unknown

When I’m driving to a new destination, I have to use a navigation system. It’s very important to me that I know exactly how to get where I’m going before I get there. So much so, that I literally need to know what my next turn is long before I have to make it. I have to prepare for it mentally. If I don’t know ahead of time which lane to get into or whether to make a left or right turn, my anxiety level starts to rise.

When it comes to our destiny, God many times will show us where He’s taking us, but not necessarily how we’ll get there. If we’re honest, at times we’re not too clear on the where either. For someone that needs to know the details in advance, this truth doesn’t always bring me comfort. Then I realize this is where my faith must come in. And not only faith, but trust too.

It can be scary not knowing where you’re going in life, or exactly how you’ll get there. It’s much like driving to a place you’ve never been without directions. It feels like you’re blindly going into unfamiliar territory. In the natural, this might be true. But the good news is God has given us His Holy Spirit, which is the best navigation system we will ever need! We can trust that The Holy Spirit will prompt us and let us know which way to go; left, right, or keep straight. He will even tell us when to go.

God confirms this many times through Scripture. In Psalm 32:8, He promises to instruct and teach us in the way we should go, and guide us with His eye. Isaiah 45:2 says God will go before us and make the crooked places straight. We can have faith and assurance that He will make sure we reach the destination He’s already purposed for us, and will navigate us by His Spirit all along the way.

Heavenly Father, we praise You and thank You for who You are. You are all-knowing, all-powerful, and all-present. We thank You that as we trust You with all our heart and acknowledge You in all our ways, You are faithful to direct our paths. We give You glory in Jesus’ name. Amen
